Kelly is your typical central coast mum with two young kids. She is busy driving them around to activities and sports and finds that if she squeezes in one session to the gym in a week then it’s a good week. However Kelly feels like she is running on empty, there is no time for her and she is feeling older than she thinks she should. She drags herself out of bed in the morning and can’t wait for a glass of wine (that turns into 2 or 3) while she does the ironing at night. Often she isn’t in bed till just before 12 midnight. Sound familiar?
Kelly came to see us for a nagging case of low back pain. But we also found that since the low back pain her bowel function had slowed considerably, her periods were becoming much more painful and her feet were really achy first thing in the mornings.
When we examined Kelly she had inflamed sacroiliac joints that she remembers having pain there when she was pregnant. She had lost her core strength and couldn’t do a plank without pain and she had a mild disc bulge in her low back that was actually causing restless legs.
So she agreed to go ahead and see if we can help. I will let Kelly tell you from here in a letter she wrote to us.
“I have to say I was probably the biggest skeptic when I first came to see Matt and everyone at Platinum Chiropractic. I had always been a physio person having been very sporty when I was younger and I always thought chiropractic was about getting your back cracked! Well I have to say after the initial consultation and examination I was blown away. No-one had examined me so thoroughly or had been able to show me how my lower back problem was effecting my core strength, how it had actually changed how I had been walking and was the cause of my achy legs (I just thought I was getting varicose veins like my Mum).
The x-rays showed I had some degeneration and that the problem had probably been there longer than I thought.
The treatment was really gentle and I have to say after the first treatment I slept really well. I’ve been seeing Matt and the team for 8 weeks now and I’ve been able to get back to netball for the first time in 8 years. There is no way I could have done this before I was just so tired. Matt has given me advice on exercise, we have spoken about my diet (I always used to skip breakfast-a big no no when I need to reduce inflammation).
I think the biggest difference has been with my children. I’m not snappy at them like I was and I’m a fun young Mum again.”
Once we had an actual diagnosis of what was causing Kelly’s problem the biggest difference we were able to make for Kelly was to use our team to address where her diet was causing an increase in inflammation, giving her a specific set of exercises to address her underlying spinal problem as well as simple ways to reduce her reaction to stress.
We did this by having her see certain people in our team as well as giving her access to some online tools that gave us a better idea of where we could make the biggest difference to her life fast.
